Lake Havasu, Arizona October 31, 2007

This is our Tourboat, "The Dreamcatcher" coming into dock.

The London Bridge as we head down the channel out onto Lake Havasu

Lake Havasu city off the stern of the boat

Approaching the California side of Lake Havasu. The big building in the midle is the Restaurant/Casino

Heading back from the docks towards the shops...Woo Hoo!

Now this place is very kewl. As I look out my MoHo window this morning, I see clear blue sky and although it's just 9:00 am, the temperature is already 21 C. Gonna be a nice one! One of the most interesting and popular lakes along the Colorado River, Lake Havasu is 45 miles long and boasts the historic London Bridge. With it's towering walls and archway it has stood here for more than 25 years. Beside it is an English Village that is filled filled with Tudor-style buildings and great shops (and I visited all of 'em) creating an atmosphere of Medieval England. Many visitors are surprised when they learn this is the original London Bridge and not a gimmick.

Here is it's history. For more than 140 years, London Bridge served as a crossing over the River Thames in London, England. It survived both world wars and a terrorist attack in 1884. So why did London want to remove such a significant landmark? And how did the London Bridge end up in Lake Havasu City, Arizona? Well, the Bridge began to sink into the River Thames and in 1968, the city of London decided to sell it for 2.5 million dollars to Robert P. McCulloch, founder of Lake Havasu City. It took 3 years and another 7 million dollars to dismantle, ship and rebuild the bridge. Now the London Bridge connects Lake Havasu City with an island in the lake. Kewl, huh?

Yesterday we are went on a boat tour to a casino on the California side. Had lunch there in a lovely retaurant hanging over the lake. It was a great time. The photos are above.

Tonight here at our resort, we'll be attending a Halloween Party. Looking forward to it. They have dinners every night (very reasonable) as well as breakfast if you so desire. (I desire a lot!) Weather continues to be hot and so this afternoon we are headed for the pool. Nice bunch of people here. Mostly Americans from the Northern States (although our neighbor ext store is from Conneticut), a lot of Californians (probably trying to escape the smoke). Not nearly as many Canadians as there were in Vegas. Met one fellow form Keremos this morning, and he is the only other Canuck we've met so far.

Good Bye Las Vegas

We had a great 8 day stay here in Vegas. Really enjoyed the weather and ambience of the place. Did a little shopping, a little gambling, a little siteseeing. Met some very nice people and just plain had fun. Visited two beautiful churches during our visit. But all good things must end and we are heading further south tomorrow. Lake Havasu, AZ is our next stop. Viva Las Vegas!!! But the prospects of more fun in the sun adventures await us, so we are outta here. We'll be back! ;)

October 24, 2007 Lake Mead and Hoover Dam

Did the tourist thing today and drove to see beautiful Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. Amazing to see a big ole lake smack dab in the middle of a desert. Gorgeous though. Buddy just had to have a dip!

When we arrived home, the mercury had soared to 35 C so we headed to the pool. Ray liked going from the hot tub to the pool and back. It was sooo refreshing.
The last two are for you Darren. Now aren't you sorry? :0

It's Vegas, Baby!

Yes, we finally have made it to Sunshine, Palm trees and lovely warm temperatures. Las Vegas. We are staying at a lovely Resort in Las Vegas at the South end of the "Strip" called Oasis Las Vegas R.V Resort. Very nice. Pools, Spas, Exercise rooms, restaurants...

We arrived late last night and have decided to stay for a week. We will be taking a shuttle to the strip tomorrow and take in the other attractions in the region over the next few days.

October 19, 2007 Wells, Nevada

So we ended up staying an extra night in Twin Falls, Idaho. The resort didn't have a WiFi connection so couldn't post. Experienced our first SNOW on a mountain pass near Boise. Yukk Went shopping in Twin Falls and had a little rest before before heading out and making it to Wells, Nevada today where we found a nice little Resort with very friendly and helpful management Temperatures are warmer now (27 C), but very windy. Weather being influenced by the pacific storm of the past couple days. Don't know if we'll tackle Bryce Canyon in Utah because of this, but we'll see how tomorrow goes and otherwise we should be in Las Vegas by Sunday.

Terrain here is very stark. Desert, with virtually no trees for miles and miles. Here a couple pictures. Check out the Very ugly spider Toby and I found on a walk in the desert. Yikes!

October 16, 2007

We are in a pretty little resort tonight called Canyon Pines RV Resort. Very picturesque with the Salmon Creek flowing along side of our site.

We have been really inpressed with the scenery in the southern tip of Idaho. We passed through Lewiston around noon and were delighted to see the unusual rolling dune-like hills of the landscape. (top two photos).
On to Jackpot, Nevada tomorrow! :)

October 15, 2007

Made it to Pondersoa Falls, at Cheney, Wa. Pretty place, I really like it. Even with all the Ponderosa Pines, we still had Satelite TV so I could watch my Monday night shows. (Very important). Into Idaho tomorow...

It's Autumn at Fort Greenwood

Weather has been cool, but the scenery is fantastic with all the fall colors. Had my daughter, Wendy, come for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. Had a nice visit.

We have only one week 'till we leave to start our first adventure south to warmer temps. Can't wait!
